NIGERIAN STUDENTS POETRY PRIZE

 
 

Introduction

Nigerian Students Poetry Prize, an initiative of Poets in Nigeria supported by Association of Faculty of Arts Students, University of Ibadan, is designed to stimulate creativity, promote excellence and broaden intellectualism among Undergraduate Students of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions. Billed to hold annually and hosted by different tertiary institutions across the 6 geo-political zones, its maiden edition will be hosted by the prestigious University of Ibadan’s Faculty of Arts.

The poetry prize culminates in an Arts Festival (Nigerian Students Arts Festival) where various art forms including poetry performances, drama, and visual arts will be showcased and winners of the poetry contest awarded on 7th May, 2016. The award night will feature the staging of a play written by a student.

As part of our plans to hone the literary crafts of the young and give them a voice, an anthology of 100 selected poems (of entries received) will be published.

Prizes

1st Prize – ₦100,000 ($335)

2nd Prize – ₦50,000 ($167)

3rd Prize – ₦30,000 ($100)

Submission Guidelines:

Only undergraduate students of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions are eligible to enter for the contest.

Nigerian Undergraduate students in the diaspora are also eligible.

There are no fixed themes for the contest. Participants are allowed to freely explore themes relevant to contemporary times.

An entrant is entitled to a single entry of limitless word count.

All entries must be original, intellectual property of the entrants.
Submissions should be accompanied by brief biography comprising full name, level, department and faculty.

Name of tertiary institution should also be distinctively mentioned alongside contact details (email address and phone number).

All submissions should be forwarded to nspp2016@gmail.com and tagged ‘Nigerian Students Poetry Prize 2016’.

All entrants should subscribe to www.poetsinnigeria.org.ng for continuous updates.
