BE FRIENDLY BUT CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS

In life, we will always need people. God did not create us to be in isolation. I guess that explains why Eve came into existence after the creation of Adam. . . . . As social being, we have an innate desire to connect with people, to experience dynamic relationship with one another. This need is as fundamental as our need for food and water. . . . . . So, my friend, drop that claim that you don't need anybody in life because you do. There is a symbiotic relationship between you and the society in which you live. . . . . . You know what? Solitary can be a terrible thing for human. Hence, everybody needs someone. Truth is, friendship adds to the fullness of life. . . . . . Hence, if you desire to become successful in life you will need people. No greater achievement was ever done by a single individual. You need people to be able to fulfill your vision. . . . . . However... . . . . . You need to be careful of the kind of people you associate w...

AS A TRAINED COMPUTER SCIENTIST, I LOVE PLAYING WITH TECH...

However, the thing I love the most about what I do is that no matter what is going on in my life - no matter how busy I get, I get to have a conversation with an intelligent, high performing individual at least once a week. These weekly conversations with my friends (and some strangers) add so much colour to my imagination. Even more exciting, I get to let thousands of people in on the conversation. Thank you for tuning in as we aim to bring you even more value.  The picture below shows the location where the very first episode was live streamed in March 2015. There was no Facebook group, just BBM contacts. Don’t let the pretty desk fool you. This was a ‘self contain’. The ‘bricks’ on the wall were just wallpaper I bought at Ikeja mall. My bed was just to my right. Good times. By John Obidi SmartbCamp founder.

DEAR AUTHORPRENEUR

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SELL MORE THAN 10 COPIES OF YOUR BOOKS... Then do these 10 things: 1. DON'T MAKE A RESEARCH Remember, you know everything. You are omniscient. Before Abraham, Socrates and Einstein, you are. Don't read the works of others. Don't read related works. Write # everything from your head. But don't be surprised, when your book cannot make it to a platform, because the Intravenous needle was inserted upside down in one of your characters. 2. DON'T BE ORIGINAL, APPLY NEO-PLAGIARISM This is specifically and mostly for Nigerian non-fiction writers. You have just written a book but it's a collection of all the quotes from Socrates, Brian Tracy, Abraham Lincoln, Revised Standard Version Bible, Hitler, Idi Amin, Jezebel, Phaaroah and Judas Iscariot. Don't be bothered why no one has the guts to copy or share your work with/without credits. For thus says Labamabam, "Aba ma ndị Aba [Aba knows its kind.] Shall a plagiarised...

ACRIMONY

So I finally saw the much talked about movie. To be honest, It left me shook. My mind kept racing back and forth, till the end. Tell you what, that film is capable of brewing hot arguments. Men would naturally want to support the guy and women, the lady. Truth is, our perspectives will not all be the same. No matter how we each, try to report what we see, a little bit of sentiment can not be totally ruled out. So, here's my review and a few submission on the film. Judging from the end, Melinda and Robert, each had their individual fault. Melinda's, more pronounced. While Robert's could almost go unnoticed. Now, from the beginning, I blamed Mel for allowing herself to be fooled by Robert. To me, there were too many red flags that should have kick back her senses. They were enough to make her flee. Yet, She didn't. She was in love. Abi? The kind that blinds. First, he took undue advantage of her vulnerability. And that, while she mour...

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECTIVENESS ON FACEBOOK

By August 2011, three years after being on Facebook, I had 220 friends. But by November, just three months later, I had over 500 friends. More than 100% increase in three months. What I could not do in three years. There is a principle known as The Law of Cause and Effect. It states that for every effect there is a cause. And if you want more of the effect then all you need to do is repeat the cause. The following are things you can do to increase your social media effectiveness. 1. Your Profile Picture We have dealt with this before in the tribe. Your profile picture is the gateway to your profile. So you must take it seriously. To know what constitutes a good profile picture click on the link below https://www.facebook.com/groups/smartbcamp/permalink/2007545175925688/ 2. Your Name If you are intentional with what you do on Facebook then it is better to use your real name. First, it aids easy identification for anyone who might be searching for you. Second, it i...

AWOSIKA CHARGES FG ON YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

By Benjamin Alade Ibukun Awosika Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Ibukun Awosika, has stressed the need for government to empower youths in the country, stating that any nation that is not consciously investing in its next generation is not a serious country. She gave this charge at the inaugural festival to celebrate the 55th birthday of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola in Lagos tagged: BRF GABFEST 2018 with the theme, ‘The youth in Nigeria: Mapping the future’. She said government needs to be deliberate in considering the youth when s...
FROM 9-5 HUSTLE TO ENTREPRENEUR BUSTLE (Part 1) Right from my university days, I knew that I wasn't cut out for a 9-5 job so I made a mental note to start my own business right after graduation. During lectures, I would often catch myself in class daydreaming about my business empire. I could describe it vividly to anyone who care to hear about what my office looked like, the number of staff working for me and of course, the annual returns in dollars. In my final year, I moved from daydreaming to visualising and documenting what I saw in my mind's eyes. I was so sure that starting my business would be a piece of fresh baked cake. Oh boy, was I wrong! My final examinations dragged for so long, I thought the year will never come to an end. Impatiently, I waited for the graduation ceremony. Then there was the compulsory NYSC. It was as if the government and the school authority conspired to delay the start of my business. Suddenly I finished service and life happene...
