ONE MAJOR WAY OF BEING RESPONSIVE TO YOUR ABILITY

By PRAISE AKOBO It's possible you may or may not have thought of 'responsibility' as a 'response to ability'. So, let's roll. .. .. .. Have you checked, how that, when you were given a task, be it in school, church, office, firm or even that which you gave yourself? Did you see that, somehow, you felt lackadaisical at first but decided to take the bull by its horn? Now, the ability to do that was resident within, but came alive when you chose to act, this is why you hear words like UNTIL YOU GET STARTED, YOU CAN NOT START. .. .. .. I discovered that I understood something's about myself when I was given a responsibility in an N.G.O and accepted it. Just like you, I hesitated but until today, that has been a major factor in my growth. My NETWORK grew as well my NET WORTH. Lets say for instance, you are asked to be part of an Editorial Committee, you finally accepted, then along the line, you discovered ...

DISCIPLINE ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH

By GRACE A. JOHN-UGWUANYA Have you wondered why it is very easy to set goals in a new year but before the first quarter runs out, we don't commit ourselves to those goals? The reason is that we rely more on only discipline without putting other factors in place that will assist in achieving our goals. Failure becomes inevitable if we rely on only discipline while still being in an environment that favours our old habits. A smoker who desires to quit cannot always be in the company of smokers and exercise discipline. The temptation is very high with an increased attraction to pick up a cigarette. To achieve your goals, you need to create an enabling environment that makes it easy for you to succeed. To avoid wasting your mental energy over putting off task, always complete tasks as they come up. Do you think discipline alone will help? To your success, Grace A. John-Ugwuanya We will appreciate your feedback after readi...

The best you can do for your children is LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT THEM TO LIVE.

By ESTHER BEST NWACHUKWU The best you can do for your children is LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT THEM TO LIVE. No long story... The picture explains it better. This is a picture of my mum and myself speaking during the POSH Amazon conference last month. She came to the conference from a speaking engagement and stayed with us all through. We learnt so much from her wealth of knowledge and experience. Momma is a speaker and her daughter has no choice but to be a speaker also. Infact, two of her children are speakers in their domains. I grew up following mum sometimes for evangelism and talks when she's invited. I used to go with her just to cheer her up. I grew up being shy including when I'm giving recitation in Church. I will literally be looking up to avoid eye contact with people. Gradually, I started picking up... I preached alone for the first time when I was 10 and that was to an adult. I was just muttering those words anyhow they were coming. Fast forward ...

ONE THING...

By AKINKUNMI AKINLADE Some will lead silent lives; go to Dubai and the Bahamas and no one will know about it. Some others will lead loud lives: go to Elegushi beach in Lagos and the whole world must hear. Actually, none of these actions is right or wrong. Their responses may be a reflection of their stories. Meet Jasmine, a young lady born into affluence, raised in Banana Island, who jets out of Naija regularly for holidays. Rumours have it that she has been to over twenty countries already. Sorry but another vacation in Dubai or the Bahamas means little or nothing to her. So she’s quiet about it. No qualms. No stress. No noise. It’s how she rolls. Now, let us meet Barakat, another wonderful lady. She was raised in the village, where everything was black and white. She grew up on efo riro (vegetables), the bland, watery and salty type. To her, meat and fish were luxury products, served exclusively during festivities. Barakat was the first to avoid getting im...
DO YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE ENDLESS BLISS AND FIND LASTING FULFILMENT?  Every individual born into this world is endowed with at least a gift, with which to achieve greatness in life. It is a great pity that so many people have not yet discovered or maximised their gifts- their source of wealth, impact and influence. And unless they discover their gifts, they can't rule their world. Discover your gift(s) and rule your world. Your gift is your source of wealth. Unravel it early while you still have breath because it is your primary source of influence and affluence in life. Creativity is an asset entrusted to you as a special gift to benefit humanity with. If truly you are genuinely created in the image and likeness of God that automatically gives you the assurance of possessing creative and innovative power both to invent and to discover new and profound ways of doing things.  On this note we all @ SCHOOL OF PURPOSE DISCOVERY INTERNATIONAL have brought the FABULOUS ...
STOP THOSE SYNDROMES Olapurpose James Asu In 2005 when I was still working with Landover Aviation Company at Ikeja in Lagos as an Office Assistant and later to Administrative Officer I wrote a note which captured the above title.  Many people are not making headway or progress in life because they've believed in the possibility and reality of those Syndromes. And nurturing them will kill dreams faster and stand as impediments to arriving at one's God-given and ordained destiny. The more you allow them to occupy your mental faculty, the more they incapacitate your creative ability and innovative capacity.  When I was much younger, those Syndromes were fully operating in my life at full force because I gave them the permission and failed to make use of my power of choice but rather lived on every piece of advice of people without sieving them and holding on to the healthy ones and leaving the unhealthy ones. Most times whenever I tried to do any activities that I...
WE DON'T DO NORMAL ANYMORE Nri Chinenye Audrey. It has been overwhelming, overwhelmingly exhausting. With every second of exhaustion died the dream and the promise to stay true to myself To be relevant To live and answer to my calling That voice within slowly becoming stifled as I gradually eased into the oblivion where I do not need to work my mind of creativity Where I become normal, regular And my purpose and calling to life, dead... Somewhere, somewhere within, the voice cried My conscience cried out powerfully loud in its small voice to remind me of our pact, that... WE DON'T DO NORMAL ANYMORE. And I awakened.. . . . What is your dream? What challenges are you going through that has made you so weary to the point of forfeiting your dreams? What is that thing that is causing you great distractions? The road to achieving much in life comes with many obstacles. Sometimes you get distracted, confused, overwhelmed, weary from failing too many a time. Whil...
ON INVITATION AND SPEAKING FEES The standard practice when it comes to inviting a professional is to ask him or her if he has a professional fee he/she charges especially if you are planning an event especially if you don't have any personal relationships. I can no longer understand how people have a budget for a 4star hotel venue and feeding(buffet) yet have no budget for a resource person. It is not right to be upset that a resource person is asking for your budget for coming to share from his wealth of knowledge. That is what many of these guys do for a living. The double standards stinks because these are questions you gladly ask when you bring in a foreigner yet feel insulted when a local asks the same question. Some of these resource persons don't need your hamper of Milo and Lipton tea. Let it be their choice to determine if they want to do it for free. I have a quota for CSR in my office for example and we know when, who and how to channel it. It is no longer...

Most of us carry burden that we've put on ourselves because of unresolved guilt and unrealistic expectations. “Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬ So I ask again, what has got you bothered? DO YOU WANT TO BE THE NEXT DON?  To seal the deal, you need to be a Don. To set the pace, you need to be a Don. Regardless of your shortcomings or mistakes, you can still join the league of the DONS. Real Dons don't just make mouths, they make moves. As they make moves, the make waves. If Basket mouth is a Don in the comedy industry and Tuface Idibia is a Don in the music industry.  You too need to discover an industry where you can become a Don. Dons are problems solvers and solution providers. Dons are in high demand across the world. They don't just command respect but achieve fantastic results. They don't dance to the lyrics or rhythm of mediocrity. They pursue their visions shamelessly. Do you want to become a Don in your field or industry? You need to pay close attention to this. Consistency in whatever you're doing is a critical factor to first consider before you can move upward in this radar of becoming a Don. Every Don is the first bel...
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO PUSH FOR TRUE CHANGE? Austria on December 12, 2018, made history by electing the world's youngest president, who is 31 years old. His name is Sebastian Kurz. Before those elections, he was the country's foreign minister. While our youth are contented with being used, praise singers and be special assistants on social media, youth elsewhere are disrupting the status quo, pushing for innovation, changing the narrative and pushing for new frontiers. From Facebook to Snapchat and Taxify, these tech giants were founded by millennials who are youth. Mark Zukerberg is just 32 years old and the youngest billionaire in the world. The bar has been raised in Austria, that elected a 31 year old man, as its leader. A 31 year old man in Africa, is probably in his parents house, unemployed, broke, eating free food and not bothered. The 31 year old Africans are feeling big, supporting politicians (who directly or indirectly put us in the mess we are in),...

UNVEILING ''KISS YOUR BLISS''

''There is something more than happiness and that is a life of endless bliss. It is a life where everything become possible; where dreams become achievable and where journey or pursuit becomes attainable. It is a life of absolute possibility where one’s passion is being expressed and mission accomplished. Everybody has a predetermined destination and to arrive there, you need to know your life's mission.  Your life's mission will either bring about your fulfillment or regret. If you're pursuing or running with a wrong mission, it will only lead you to the wrong destination, but if you’re pursuing or running with the right mission, it will lead you to the right destination.  Alignment with your mission statement is the pathway that leads to absolute fulfillment. To joke with this pathway is to take your destiny with levity and to end up your life in tragedy beyond any remedy. Your mission is what you do to bring about your life's vision. Vision has ...

SEE THE CHANGE

This interview was in February 2004, three months after Eji Owuro was released. When challenges come, and it looks like I should give up, I am led to, with staying strong and being sure of The Father's mercy, read my old books, look at old pictures, and see how far the mercy of GOD has brought me. Line upon line, step on step, on purpose, I am here. And still going on, strong and steady. Here cannot even compare to the beauty of "there", as much as I am deeply thankful and privileged to have been here at all. Whoever you are, let your hope rise again at this time. It is a journey. Success does not happen "just like that". You got here, you'll get there. And I am talking to myself too! Raise your head up, square your shoulders, it'll occur to you that your feet have been made strong all this while, you only didn't know because your head was bowed in discouragement! You've found it like me? Keep at it. You are not sure of it? Put in m...

I'LL STARVE HIM

Real life story: My name is Aramide Olanrewaju, I've been married to my wonderful husband for three years. Ours was love at first sight. We were friends who could talk about just anything so I couldn't say no when Olakunle asked me to marry him. We attended all the marriage counselling classes and listened to all those who had been married ahead of us had to say. This home of ours was definitely going to work no doubt, I concluded in my mind several times. Olakunle met the requirements of all I needed in a man. The counsellors did try their best but a few weeks in marriage revealed a wide gap between their counsels and the reality of marriage. I realised we disagreed about almost everything. It seemed friendship took a long walk from our home. Our first child came and he readily became our best friend. My attention completely shifted to him. Hubby too became our son's best friend. We thought we loved our son but clinging to him further widened the gap between u...

YOUR DAY WILL COME IF YOU KEEP MOVING...

This is for those between 21 and 30. Fresh out of school (or maybe few years out of school), trying to find your way, trying to build a career, trying to make a living, trying to find your feet, and it seems you'll never get there. Your friends are traveling abroad for their masters, getting married, starting businesses, and it seems like you aren't doing anything with your life. Calm down. Don't push yourself into depression. Just understand one thing; your day will come if you keep moving. You're allowed to wander, you're allowed to try different things, just make sure you don't go astray. DIRECTION is more important than SPEED. By Olisa Umerah D'gens

WHAT'S STOPPING YOU FROM BECOMING A ''LID LIFTER.''?

My journey with leadership began more than two decades ago. I never imagined as a young man living in Iran, I'd emigrate to America and be mentored by the extraordinarily influential Dr. John C. Maxwell - the number one leadership expert in the world! If you're a leader who has become comfortable and even complacent with “what works” - you've essentially limited yourself and everyone you influence with a low lid mentality. 1) A true leader strives to become a “Lid Lifter” for himself and others while actively encouraging open and direct dialogue, respect, and coaching in the workplace. 2) A true leader never operates or allows others around him to use a “low lid” mentality, holding others back. Rather, they lead and coach others to success and personal development. A leader sets high standards and pursues goals with optimal purpose. 3) “Lifting the lid” is a deliberate and conscious choice that doesn’t happen by chance. A good leader is both self-aware and eq...

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT ME AND MY EBOOK - ''UNLOCKING YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION...steps you must take.''

''One of the most basic questions everyone faces in life is, Why am I here? Reading this amazing book I would describe James as an author who is giving an existence to people’s purpose. Style that he uses is very understandable and from that each person could use it as a self-help book. James is putting a light on what each person needs to find, to live a fulfilled life: he is talking about purpose. All of us have something that we supposed to do. It is goodness. And is our responsibility to manifest that something. Someone has already done or is doing something that you want to do. We were not born lucky. We can be more. What is that 'more'? James is explaining how ‘you have to discover what turns you on and what turns you off'. His whispering voice caress readers inner passion which was sleeping, now waking up. Because there is nothing more powerful than human with purpose. James highlights also how important is to find your purpose early enough. Every sing...
